When working with concrete, it’s important to ensure the quality and integrity of your chosen mix. Concrete cube testing is a straightforward way to verify compressive strength and workability. Your concrete floor must withstand heavy loads while maintaining structural integrity. The cube test for concrete verifies that your chosen concrete mix is fit for purpose for safe, durable and long-lasting results.

Cube Testing At
Technic Concrete Floors.
Concrete is one of the most commonly used materials for floors, foundations and much more, so knowing that it won’t crack or crumble is critical when designing your next project. Working with us ensures your internal and external concrete floors are 100% up to the job.
Cube tests on concrete flooring involve sampling ready-mix concrete, letting it cure, and then crushing it. This process measures compressive strength, allowing you to make confident purchasing decisions for your next project.
Our accredited independent testing house adheres to British Standards for concrete testing, including:
BS EN 12390
Testing hardened concrete
BS 8500
Specification for concrete mix materials and design
BS EN 12390-3:2019
Compressive strength of test cubes

A typical concrete cube test assesses the compressive strength of your chosen concrete mix. It’s a straightforward four-step process that lets you know the specified materials meet the required standards.
At Technic Concrete Floors tests are usually carried out after seven days when concrete reaches 65% of its compressive strength and 28 days at full strength. However, tests can also be carried out at 14 days (90% strength) and 56 days (maximum strength).
Here are the steps concrete cube testing companies carry out:
1
We’ll prepare freshly mixed samples of your concrete mix for testing. Fresh concrete gives the most accurate results in terms of strength, density, and consistency.
2
We’ll fill three or more concrete moulds, then level and compact them to BSI standards. We’ll prepare several cubes so we can test at seven and 28-day intervals.
3
First, we’ll store the concrete cubes at 15℃-25℃ for 24 hours. This is followed by curing in temperature-controlled water tanks for up to four weeks.
4
On days 7, 14 (optional), 28, and 56 (optional), we’ll test the cubes using a concrete crushing machine. The machine exerts force on the cube until the concrete crumbles. We’ll measure the force it takes for the concrete to break so we can rate the compressive force of your concrete mix.
Quality, durability and safety are at the core of everything we do. We only carry out cube testing at an independent accredited testing house working to British Standards, so you’ll have peace of mind that your chosen mix can withstand the rigours of your project. As a result, you get dependable results for concrete that performs over the long term.

Concrete cubes are generally tested on day 7 when they’re at 65% compressive strength or on day 28 when at full strength. We can also arrange 14- and 56-day testing for additional verification.
Poor-quality concrete will crack, flake and discolour. Importantly, it crumbles under pressure. Concrete cube testing assures the quality and compressive strength of your concrete mix.
Curing ensures that your concrete cube samples reach the required strength at the right time. A minimum of three cubes are cast to allow for testing on days 7 and 28, with one spare.
