John Lennon Airport – Liverpool

The hangar’s internal space measured at approximately 2,200m2. With a project like this, it was imperative that the entire surface be level and of the same high-quality to ensure durability and structural integrity. When any surface has to deal with heavy footfall, vehicles, storage and the weight of large airplanes, it needs to be extremely abrasion-resistant to prevent any potholes or other issues developing. In addition to the potential damage from heavy vehicles, there is also the risk of adverse weather conditions and regular exposure causing damage to what is supposed to be an internal floor space.

Our experienced team of concrete layers had to lay the concrete to FM4 2013 Property E floor tolerance to assist smooth operation of handling vehicles. We were also asked to create a hard dense power float finish to meet the client’s requirements.

Creating a power float finish is relatively easy for our team in a fully internal space. However, the airport hanger itself was regularly exposed to the elements, which presented another challenge to our team. Fortunately, Technic’s experienced team thrive on challenges like these!

We set up the A193 Mesh Reinforcement for the new concrete floor. From there, our concrete mixer trucks quickly distributed the high-quality concrete upon the mesh reinforcement. We then utilised the S22 Laser Screed machine to ensure compaction and tolerance control the surface of the slab. This was then completed with the client’s dense power float finish requirement.
